There will be a Behind the Scenes Tour at the Isaac Theatre to raise funds for polio. This is a combined event with Rotary clubs across our Cluster group. A great way to help polio but also meet and have fun with fellow Rotarians in other clubs. Isaac Theatre Royal Visit details
"The visit will take place on Tuesday 31st October starting promptly at 3:30pm. The doors will be open from 3:15 (so please don’t arrive any earlier) and you will be directed up the stairs to the Gloucester Room. There is a lift for those who cannot manage the stairs – indeed the whole visit can have step free access for you.
We will have a short 15-minute presentation in the Gloucester room (chairs will be set our for us) on the theatre and the necessary Health and Safety points. The tours will commence at 3:45 and will end at 4:30. We need to be out of the building before 5pm.
There is no production set up at present, as the theatre had a cancellation for October. As each production bring their own scenery and props, please do not expect to see the stage all set up for singing and dancing but we will be able to stand on the stage and to see all of the dressing rooms. You may even get to see one of the two ghosts.
We have sufficient capacity for 3 tours of 20 people, or 60 people in total. Tours will be charged at $10 per person as a collection for our club Polio Plus donation. For Rotarians we can add that to your account.
To Register for the tour please reply to me as soon as possible. We will also be making this tour available to the Inner Wheel. Places are on a first come, first served basis. If we have not filled all of the places by 20th October, I will open the event to other Rotary clubs in our cluster so please get your booking in early to avoid disappointment, don’t delay. When they are gone, they are gone. We cannot add extra places at the last minute." . |

I have recently published an historical fiction novel called ‘Taming the Wild Grape’. It is a fictional account of some distant ancestors of mine who bought land in the Western Reserve - an untamed and uninhabited area that later became the State of Ohio in America. The book, set in the 1800s, follows the lives of the Pelton family as they relocate to Ohio from their home in Connecticut. It is the story of one man’s dream to create a home for his sons and to build a township in the wilderness during a time that was fraught with danger. In order to write this novel I have spent the past four years researching my connection to this branch of my family, the history of the township in which they settled, and daily life in America at this time. And I have enjoyed every moment of it.

Cool Change "Check the garage, wardrobe and the pool." These are not the words you want to hear while searching for your father who has disappeared on the farm. But this is what Christchurch student Grace Curtis was told on the day life as she knew it was shattered. Only seven months after her father’s death, 22-year-old Grace launched an online suicide awareness and mental health campaign. "I'm hoping to share with people the journey of what it's like being bereaved by suicide." https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/daughters-launch-mental-health-movement-after-fathers-suddendeaths/UC4YBVXILWT7IQBPIPQHJE7QRY/ Come and hear Grace speak about her awareness campaign, “Cool Change |
