Membership Evening

Last Thursday evening saw over 40 members and 8 invited guests join us for a membership and information evening about Rotary.

Arie gave the Global perspective of Rotary followed by Verdi outlining our Papanui projects and how they have benefitted the community. Nick outlined how Rotary clubs are changing to become more flexible in the ways they meet, how often and the purpose of ‘doing things differently’ which our club is keen to promote.

Liz followed on with our areas of focus within Rotary and told us a funny story about how she was asked to join and why she has stayed. She also showed us a video of our youngest member, Jonny, who was asked: ‘Why have you stayed in Rotary?”

Sarah Pride, one of our Rotary Associates was then interviewed by Liz, where she was asked: “What has she as a young person got out of being associated with Rotary?” Sarah gave us an excellent off the cuff answer which cemented the reason of: “Mentoring, opportunities for her career, networking with like minded people and joining in with a diverse group of people to do stuff.”

A great social time was had by all and two of those invited guests immediately said: “Yes” they wanted to join us. The other guests are being followed up but all appeared keen and not eager to leave.

It must have been the great food and wine!
